Hi,

Was wondering if anyojne had done this training course? its apparently exactly the same as the 2391 but not recogniosed!!

as im on the NICEIC course should i just do this or go for the 2391? or have both?

im unsure on it as i dont want to waste my time

thanks

I think NABIT do a similar course too!! Probably the same thing, can't fail as you can take/sit the test as many times as it takes to pass!! lol!! The thing is, why would you pay for a qualification that no-one else is going to recognise??

As above, unless its the recognised 2391 then I wouldn't bother as like has been said who in the world is going care what you have if it isn't recognised. If you and 5 other people want to pay me ÂŁ500 each I will take the week off work and spend it with you all taking you through in depth inspection and testing, at the end you will all sit an exam that I have wrote and when you pass I will give you a cert that, apart from myself, nobody else will accept.

This is in essence what NAPIT and NIC are doing. By passing with NIC they know you will be a scheme member of theirs for years to come because if you went anywhere else you would have to sit another expensive exam. Doing the 2391 C&G means you can choose which one and also employers will recognise the qual!

ah right, well its part of my course but i can opt out of it i think. what i ideally want to do is do all the training with them and then pay for the 2391 so all training is free essentially.

good way of explaining it though ta

So what other so called qualifications is this NICEIC course your taking include?? Are any of them recognised by The City and Guilds institute?? Who's paying for this course, you or company??

Im on the NICEIC apprenticeship scheme they started a couple years ago. just to see how we would cope with the new way to study.

now that I'm lvl 3, just waiting to do my AM2, but also included in the course is things like health and safety training, first aid courses things like that.

also the NICEIC test & inspect. which is exactly the same as the 2391 its just not a 2391 if you know what i mean, not many companies will recognise it but is all legit and approved.

i pay ÂŁ500 a year. 3 years in total. We were like the test pilots of the new scheme. See if it could be achieved for us all to qualify and become a good electrician. which has happened. Very happy with it to be honest.

i just wondered if anyone had actually heard of this test & inspect through the NICEIC. so what i might do like farmelectrics said is just do both

If it is not a City and Guilds course then it isn't going to be the same as the 2391 no matter what NICEIC tell you. All it will do is allow you to register with them instead of doing the full C&G 2391 course

Jamiemck from what you are saying it sounds like part of your apprenticeship training

The 2391 is almost dead being replaced with the 2394 and 2395. To get the equivalant 2391 you will need to do both

Ask the question to NICEIC - what this course is about?

Sounds to me like its one of their bespoke courses like completing PIRs out properly. The "not recognised" bit sounds a bit worrying as it seems like another money earner for someone who has decided that your average electrician has difficulty completing a PIR. Stick to the 2391 as this is industry recognised and a solid qualification.
