i was looking at registering for nic domestic installer (or whatever you want to call it) was also thinking if its not much more to go for full nic membership (most of our work is commercial) but not sure if this will cover us for the domestic work or not.

also wanted a rough idea on the price difference
why not use your own link  all the info you are asking for is on there ;)

looked through it all and not sure thats why i posted here, was just hoping for a simple yes or no to my question, don't think its going to happen though
seems pretty concise to me
  • go approved contractor if you ONLY carry out commercial and industrial work
  • go domestic installer if you ONLY do domestic work under part p
  • go approved contractor and domestic installer if you do all of the above
not sure if thats answered your question as it seems to have changed from op

the op hasn't changed, just trying to explain why i'm asking the question, looking at this reply then if i go AC it doesn't cover me to sign off domestic work which is what i need, just asked the same question on another forum and told if i go AC then i can sign off domestic work.

sort of sorry i asked now

best speak to nic for confirmation.
the way i understand it ac cant sign of dis.
please post your findings so i know if i am wrong

Right

just spoke to someone at the nic, if i sign up as an approved contractor i can sign off domestic work.

price difference is about ÂŁ500 extra when signing up AC (approx. ÂŁ900)

both (AC and DI) are ÂŁ425 per year

so thats nice and simple then :)

something doesnt ring true
if its ÂŁ425 a year for approved contractor and you CAN sign off domestic work, where does the ÂŁ900 come from

'application fee'

prices

ÂŁ500 for each address requiring assessment
ÂŁ330 for each additional assessment
still dont seem right to me, think il stick with my domestic installer ;)

when you do a contractor search on nic website why do some people have domestic installer, some have approved contractor and some have both domestic installer and approved contractor

surely if its as you say and approved contractor covers domestic as well then it will be one or the other and not both :confused::confused:

You can join nic just as a domestic installer and later upgrade to approved contractor hence why some people seem to have both in their listing.
Also from memory when I joined to do domestic you need to do the domestic installer inspections etc and if want to be approced contractor there is another set of inspections. after the first year I gather you can 'upgrade' to approved contractor but will still need to have both sets of annual inspections, unless the nic choose to do a mix of inspections from what you submit.
Not sure if that helps. I do remember it being relatively clear when I called the nic and spoke to them.

hi ande, i am already domestic installer and know exactly how that side works ;)

the op has said that he can register as approved contractor ONLY which covers him for domestic too so surely he only needs 1 assessment as approved because domestic installer isnt needed

thats how i read and understand his post anyway

just received an email from the nic -

Thank you for contacting the Niceic. The domestic installer scheme is included in the approved contractor scheme the annual fee incorporates both of the schemes and the annual assessment should include examples of the work which your company is registered for.

It applies to commercial if it shares the same supply as a dwelling.
