Hi,

I am going to be contacting the NICEIC to get Part P certified in the next few weeks (prior to the new changes taking effect on 15 April 2013), but I wanted some advice on what their annual visit actually entails (i.e. verbal and practical testing / checking of knowledge etc).

I understand that they will be checking any work that have been installed, as well as checking the 2392-10 requirements / processes, however I didn't know if they also undertake any additional steps to confirm knowledge of the installation, requirements etc? If so, what and how?

Any help would be appreciated.

Have a look at the search bar top right mate. This topic has loads of threads that will tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks.

I have had a wee look via my phone (I can't log in via my PC for some reason at the moment), but I couldn't see anything about the specifics of the annual inspection etc - every time I search it just brings up every thread that had Part P mentioned.

I will try again, but any advice or links to previous (comprehensive) threads would also be appreciated.

Dont worry too much about it.. Make sure the work you do complies. For example you only resposible for you work (With the exception of main bonding) for example a consumer unit.

Anyway as for testing make sure the cert is in good nick and tidy with no mistakes. He then will ask you to prove a number of hte results. Allways ZE and then usually one of each from different curcuits in the house

FYI, I received this email from the NICEIC today:

"Some time ago you enquired about joining the NICEIC and I thought I would take a minute to go through some of our past enquiries to let you know about some upcoming changes that have been put in place.
As of April 6th 2013, the requirements to join a competent person’s scheme with any of the scheme providers will change. At the moment the only qualification required to join a scheme is a 17th edition. This will be changing to a range of different qualifications depending on what work or experience you have had.

This may mean that you are able to join a scheme at the moment but not be qualified enough to join after the 6th of April.
If you were to make an application to us before April then you would be absolutely fine on just the 17th edition qualification.

The new IET Document that has the changes in can be found here:

And this about sums up, just how totally unprofessional the NICEIC really is as a registering body!! It proves beyond any doubt, they are only interested in the commercial side of the ''Part P'' provider scheme!! They have known all along, that these 17 day/electrical trainee poorly trained wannabe electricians are, and never have been qualified enough to go into peoples homes and undertake electrical work!! Then they have the cheek, to try and sell us on, how safety conscious they are!! Now how big a joke is that??

i can see their new memberships being drastically reduced once this comes into force. none of the short course wonders will be able to join.

I read this as those who already are members of a scheme will have "grandfather" rights and only new applicants will be affected. They will still rake it in then except their new uptakes will be more restricted.

They will find loop holes in getting round them, they aren't going to let such easy money slip through their fingers so lightly!! It'll just be more of the same, just wait and see!! lol!!

Really, ....I read it as a ''get in quick'' because your under qualified, and we both know your under qualified!! lol!!
