I have a 2012 Ram 1500 which started not cranking intermittently. When it does this, the security dash light will be flashing. You can actually tell if it is going to crank by just turning the key on and waiting about 4 seconds for the dash lights to go off. IF the security light goes out and does not immediately come back on and start flashing, the truck is going to crank.
I have replaced the battery, the wireless ignition node, and had another key made.
I have had it to 3 shops and the dealer. All have just made my wallet a lot thinner. The dealer could not duplicate the issue and I think just read my stored codes and tried to sell me an over $3000 TIPM. I declined and brought it home thinking I would get a remanufactured TIPM and install it. The thing is, since bringing it home from the dealer, it has not acted up again.
I am wondering if removing the dash camera nd my phone charging cable which plugged into the cigarette lighter socket usb adapter may have been the issue? I have not plugged it back in yet and so far, no cranking issues.
I figure it is either that or maybe the dealer did open the TIPM and the correct wire got moved or something.
Anybody seen a USB adapter draw enough amps to trigger a security system. The security system is basically just a ignition disabler when it thinks somebody is trying to steal the car. It came on the Truck when purchased. Not aftermarket.
