what next? "oh i have overhead lines passing through the bottom of my back garden, am i allowed to throw a big chain up to feed the garden shed"? :)

Lol, I know a Jamaican guy who is a spark here and he said he went home and was at a friends house in the middle of nowhere then all of a sudden could hear Marley blaring out, only thing was they had no electricity out there. He went over and had a look and the guy had bared off a big cable and done this to feed his house with power lol.

The guy either had nothing to live for or was very confident in his own ability!!

Think the builder ripped the earth rod out... Whatever happened there's not an earth now. Instead of installing a new one am I allowed to take the neutral from the metre and connect a main earthing conductor in a henley block.
The street does have pme available, I checked. Is it legal though???

No you are not allowed to and no it isnt legal. But I've done it.(PROPERLY to the head though...not to the meter!)
having spent hours on the phone attempting to get EDF to connect a PME to a head..(they'd confirmed it was available)...arranged visits not kept...more hours on phone...more 'computer says no' type conversations with some moron who doesnt have a clue what you are asking for....I connected the effing thing myself.

There...I've admitted it...tin hat on....let the slagging commence.

(But I'll wager I'm not the only one)

if you do, stick one of these in your cellar. china and india are knocking 'em out faster than you can say "op must be a Electrical Trainee". might take you a while to break even though - unless you start flogging leccy to the neighbours.
