Morning all,

I changed a bathroom light yesterday and not sure what happened but when the light was turned off the MCB tripped. Regardless of that I put it to a late Friday job and had a brain fart.

Regardless of above the MCB no longer allowed current to pass through. I remember as an apprentice this happening a lot but always worked afterwards. Surely they must be more robust but the MCB was about 10 years old and made by Ashley & rock who are no longer is business.

Anyone experience this.

I had a simular thing happen to me a while back. The light worked fine but when I turned it off the mcb would trip. I finally found the problem....it was the little terminal screw on the L2 of the switch...it had come so loose, it was sat on the bottom lug of the back box and when you turned the light off....it created a fault and tripped the mcd. Just a thought, check the light switch.

switch the rcd or main switch off. stick your tester in continuity setting between incomer and outgoing poles on the mcb. if you haven't got continuity between the two poles once switched the 6a mcb on that means it is fried. on ebay you will find what you are looking for.

Many thanks for your replies.

I did try all screws on mcb but nothing, I did however but cant renember what but I crossed linked with live I believe with something else in CU and voila but couldn't repeat again but lights did come on briefly.

Found one on ebay and hopefully it work.

The CU was a complete mess and wasnt being paid to tidy but guess I'll have to look next week.

Possiblity of junction box in attic but tgatll be a latter test

Mate, don't worry. It's just Darwinism doing its thing. Now, if the OP can just give us enough info to take a life policy on him, should be in the money by the end of the week.

Ignore my top message, typed befire thinking. Meant to say that I im oretty sure mcb is knackered as I traced back fron light to CU and tried up lighting circuit in down stairs mcb and worked by main question was I thought tgese were meant to be robust and not break so easily

Hence my asking what the pfc is on that circuit as its that that's responsible (maybe).
