Hi folks thanks for any help...

Went into garage (detached) last night to get something out of freezer and neither light nor freezer working. Have a fuse box in garage (old style wire fuse) one for sockets and one for light but both are ok and the unit hadnt tripped. Went into house to check the fuses but i actually have no fuse for the garage in the main unit and everything is working ok anyway in the house.
Does the power to garage have to be coming from in my house somewhere? Could it be coming off a socket or something else - but then why is everything working in house? Does this mean a wire problem or is there something simple im not doing here? The main wire coming into garage is underground so can i check if power is getting into the garage?
And yep lost all food in freezer - 2 turkeys, 3 chickens, 2 hams, pheasant and my favourite pizzas. Gutted.

Garage must be fed from your house somewhere. Check house fuse board again and look for Any single enclosures too. Check where your meter is too to see if its there

call an electrician only advise ill give the garage should be fed from your consumer unit as i say should but wouldnt be the 1st time iv seen 1 fed of a socket

I think the simple answer is that you need to get an electrician to come and have a look at it. if you let us know where you are one of the forum members may be able to help

Thanks for replies, brooky meter etc is in the house with consumer unit and all fuses are ok - what do u mean by single enclosure?
Jonesy if its fed off a socket would some sockets in house not have tripped or stopped working?

not nessacerlly no it could be open circuit( a break in the cable) to the garage

obviously theres a fualt that needs looking at and without the proper test equipment youl be peeing in the wind to find it so best left to a spark

cheers Jonesy - just wanted to know whats infront of me and that its not something simple! Never is eh. Prob have to run wire from roofspace then to garage seeing as original cable underground - which is what i didnt want to do

No it is not a crime to understand how your domestic electrics work, but from what you have said in your post you dont have a clue how your garage is wired. No electrician worth there salt is going to give you advise so you can go and have a play. Electric Kills and as I said previously let us know where you are and maybe one of the members can help.

theres no crime in finding out the working in your house its just that electricity is a killer no matter how simple it may seem thats why when we work on an installation we have to put our name on a piece of paper that says we accept responsibility if it goes wrong also if we give you advice other than call someone in thats competent and something goes wrong and you electricute yourself or the place burns down you can can try and push the blame on us

advice to non sparks is always get someone competent in you wouldnt find anyone doing a diy ependix removal now would you

goody i do have a switch in with the consumer unit and never known what it does - i thought may have been for old doorbell maybe - but its just like a normal lightswitch - would hardly be a fuse in there?
