Hi folks thanks for any help...

Went into garage (detached) last night to get something out of freezer and neither light nor freezer working. Have a fuse box in garage (old style wire fuse) one for sockets and one for light but both are ok and the unit hadnt tripped. Went into house to check the fuses but i actually have no fuse for the garage in the main unit and everything is working ok anyway in the house.
Does the power to garage have to be coming from in my house somewhere? Could it be coming off a socket or something else - but then why is everything working in house? Does this mean a wire problem or is there something simple im not doing here? The main wire coming into garage is underground so can i check if power is getting into the garage?
And yep lost all food in freezer - 2 turkeys, 3 chickens, 2 hams, pheasant and my favourite pizzas. Gutted.

Yeh boiler and pump working they have separate feed but just thinking it runs off timer so prob no use for likes of freezer! Or is there power constantly going i could run dead garage board off?

Please don't try to wire the sockets that aren't working to the boiler pump. Please also bear in mind the sockets in the garage that aren't working may still have a live supply to them and a fault on the neutral. If you aren't competent with electrical testing or you don't have a decent tester then walk away whilst you still have eyebrows and a full life ahead of you.

Ah typical he had a job that overrun and couldn't make it. Cheers marvo i know to make sure everything off and iv borrowed a decent tester so ready to get it sorted tomorrow. At least that one socket working so should be easier.

Just try another sparky mate, with the way your describing it it sounds to be a simple fault that wont take a qualified sparky long to sort out. All it will take is a tiny mistake when your trying to sort it out and you will be dead. Electricians are trained and have qualifications to do this sort of work safely. Leave it to the professionals.

If you are a genuine person not trying to wind us up then please, please wait for a qualified electrician. Don't "have a go" with a tester....

Cant somebody please remove this thread. They seem intent on ignoring all advice that is given regarding getting a qualified electrician and wont be happy until they have fried themselves.

It's also likely that the link to your garage is from a FCU (Fused Connection Unit), check if that fuse isn't blown.
I have registered just to say thank you for this post.
About 10 years ago my intruder light fed from the garage stopped working.
I went to the garage and checked the fuse box there. All OK.
However, the light in the garage also wasn't working.
I checked that with a bulb I checked elsewhere, so it was the circuit not the bulb.

I had assumed that the halogen bulb in the floodlight had blown and taken out a fuse somewhere.
Bit there was nothing to be seen in the garage and the main fuse box in the house didn't have anything to indicate the garage either.
I tried a contactless voltage detector on the fuse box in the house (it beeped) and in the garage (no beep).

I was about to call an electrician when I thought I'd search the internet.
I saw this entry and then searched for images of FCU (safe search on).

Lo and behold inside the house hidden underneath a pair of normal wall sockets behind the cabinet behind the sofa on the wall nearest the garage was a fused and switched FCU!
I had no idea it was there.
The switch was set to the off position.
Turned the switch to the on position and everything worked!

Must have got knocked when moving furniture or something.

Thanks Goody!

At no time was in danger of electricuting myself.
