Hello all, screwfux are advertising their standard 25mm SWA glands as 'IP54'. They are just normal Tower 2 part glands and I can't see any sort of rubber ring in them. Is this rating correct? A thousand thank-yous!

To be honest, I've never seen em but I always order the correct glands for the enviroment im using em in.....and the ones for outdoor use do have a little blue plastic/rubber washer/seal on em. The screwfix ones may be a new type....ill have to have a look at em.

Yes I always use CW 3 part glands for outdoor use and yes they do grip better.

However.

I get through a hell of a lot of these and would be more than happy for IPX4 in most of the applications I use them in... and the 2 part ones are half the price, hence my question.

Cheers people

The IP54 rating will just be for the gland and shroud, with the shrould uncut. Therefore as soon as you cut the shrould, it technically looses it's IP rating....!

er , no.
the ip rating is valid when installed according to manfacturers instructions ,
not just when its in the bag lol.

All standard BW glands are ip54 by default , and as such may be suitable for certain outdoor applications.
:)

Really? Now that is interesting. What's your opinion on using them for armoured coming in to the bottom of a meter cabinet? Saving a few quid here and there all adds up lol. Then again, 3 part glands are so much nicer to work with. Decisions, decisions.....

there are lots of garden / exterior lights for sale that have an ip rating no higher than 54 and yet they deal with the UK weather ok , just dont point the pressure washer at them.
theres probably a message in there.
;-)
