If the molar is shot and must have root canal treatment to stop the pain then there is little point in spending ÂŁ300 on root treatment and ÂŁ400 on a crown when the tooth has no structural integrity.
You could have the root canal work done and leave it for a while; at least it would not hurt (afterwards), but may be unsuitable for biting on.
You could have a direct extraction and be done with the lot, the large gap is something many people have to manage, it is a nuisance but not insurmountable and you would likely learn quickly how to manage the gap.

I do not like extractions so I went for the root canal, but I should probably have "bitten" the bullet and had the extraction.

See what your dentist advises and weigh up the cost vs the inconvenience.

The cynic in me suggests the dentist will advise whatever is best for his wallet.

I had not a good evening either last night. By around 4 pm I could hardly breathe, it felt like I had someone standing on my lungs, so off I trotted to the OOH dr surgery at the hospital. Pumped full of ninja steroids and antibiotics....... hoping to breathe out again. :28:

Geordie, that's not how you pleasure a woman.

LOL@ geordie and tidy. @ dan. just get the bugger out. you don't need all the molars. you rip rare steak with incisors and canines. if you chew it with your gums, it lasts longer. besides which, teeth have no practical use when supping ale, so go for it. OUT, OUT. OUT.

DO NOT GET A BRIDGE!!!!!!
a bridge is fine for one tooth, not so great for two. If you explore this ask how long it will last. Usually 5years max, some 5months! and you are ruining other teeth in the process.

Get it extracted and have a temporary denture plate and an implant. I cracked a tooth nearly 15years ago that dentist fooked up while fixing...I'm still trying to get it sorted. Done root canal treatment...then caps/crowns. Dentist advised me to have implant at 19 but forgot to refer me after extraction and now I'm stuck at having a bone graft and an implant. I got a lawyer involved. I hate dentists!!!!

it's a pre-requisite of entry to the jeremy kyle show that women have only half the normal number of teeth, and half of those should be rotten.

well the time has come to leave the house and go. I'm opting for the extraction. cba with the hassle involved in treatment etc. 5 mins, bosh- job done.
I'll learn to live with it as has been said

i called in to see my aunty today - lives on holmewood, hasn't had a job since 1982 and has jeremy kyle on ALL THE TIME. anyway, there was a woman on there today without any teeth in her gob, and she was only about mid 40's.
