As the economy has been struggling, it is more difficult to get a job. I am sure other people are in the same boat and would like to know other than taking the 17th edition course, should I take the 2931 or another course to ensure I can have a better chance at getting a job. I am still yet to do my nvq and any advice is welcome.

If you can afford it I would advise anyone to do the testing exam as soon as possible after the 17th. The regs will be fresh in your brain. I wish I had done the 2391 course when I was at college studying for the 16th. At the time I thought I would wait and gain some experience first.

Personally i think you need more on-site experience rather than another piece of paper.
Offering to help another contractor as a trainee just to learn some skills is more useful than spending money on more courses.

And the key to finding work in todays market is
1. being in the right place at the right time
2. perserverence
3. and having good contacts
rather than having a fist full of certs.
