anyone had any experience of this ? tripping out the 30ma through capacitor leakage and manufacturer recommended a 300ma protection, not cheap and not easy to get from your average wholesaler

Hi Beefheart,

I'd not class it as nuisance tripping as its a TL inverter so min. 100ma RCB should be fitted if RCB required.

If you have to use RCB, and can't rewire so you don't need to.. then I'd suggest trying a 100ma first. More common and unlikely (but not impossible) to be above 100ma.

I believe PowerOne recommend a 300mA trip limit for their TL inverters, most others (SMA, Fronius etc) recommend a 100mA minimum trip limit. We can provide the RCD for you if you wish, Type-A or Type-B generally readily available in 2-pole config, 25A or 40A.

I have also experienced this problem recently. The Power-One manual recommends a 300mA RCD Type AC. I have tried a 100mA RCD but this also trips. Thing is I have used a 30mA RCD on quite a few Power-One installs with no problem. I guess I have to go back and change them.

Power-One technical services advised the inverters have an integrated RCD protection device which will protect the system from a ground fault on the DC side. I guess this means the array does not have to be earthed?

I spoke to someone at NAPIT who said that a RCD is not necessary unless it is TT or the cables are in the wall however Power-One technical services advised the use of a 300mA RCD Type AC. So that is what I'm going to do. Would be nice not to have to use a RCD but I'm not going to risk it.

Hope this helps.

I could be wrong but I thought that the PowerOne TL units have a built-in RCMU (residual current monitoring unit), not the same thing as an RCD. As for recommending a Type-AC unit, as oppose to a Type-A, are you sure that they said that? Just curious, ta

hi all, 300ma seems to have stopped the tripping but will be monitoring for next week or so, i have also fitted other 3.6 but from now on 300ma every time expensive, but the messing about has cost a lot of time and travel. beware. oh by the way pme system stake for array framework, shame as i quite liked the inverter but the extra cost makes it a dual string only option, the desktop is quite liked by customers too when is fronius going to catch up? my preferred inverter.
