Hi Guys, I have a dilemma I hope you can help me with?

First off I cannot get an ESC card so I have to resort to a CSCS to get on site, which, comes with it's own set of problems.

I am an electrical improver, I have level 3 Tech Cert, 17th Edition, NVQ 2 but no NVQ3 or AM2 so JIB won 't issue.

I am also now self employed on the advice of another forum member as an offer of work came through. Unfortunately the work hasn't started yet.

I do get little jobs coming through from guys on here but I really need to get my NVQ and AM2 done!!

I approached JTL who have said a bridging module would be needed and I could do the NVQ etc via the Mature Candidate Route, however, after repeated phone calls, nothing has been set up.

Is there a company you know of, who would take me as self employed and doing agency work and let me complete this with them? A company similar to JTL for example....I have tried SkillsBug but they wanted 7K!!, needless to say I politely told them where to go!

You can get an Ancillary Operative Labourer ECS card; with your qualifications you should be able to get on site as an electrical improver at least. Sign up for NVQ with a local college, or you could try XS training who are quite reasonably priced if you don't mind doing it all online.

I've spoken to Dave from XS training and It looks like I may be goiung down that route.
As with agency work though, I'll have to try and save the dosh first and then hope I get the length and the right content during temp work! Unless anyone has any offers in the NW UK ??

You don't have to complete an NVQ before taking the AM2, if you were to complete the AM2 before it would count towards the criteria needed for completion of the NVQ - worthwhile knowing if you're struggling for work...

As far as I know (it was for me) you can't complete the NVQ without the AM2.

I wasn't sure about this! That will help loads :)

You are correct here VoltzElectrical, XS mentioned they won't release the NVQ untill proof the AM2 has been done.

I did my NVQ a couple of years back now and as I was a sole trader as a mate, I was my employer, so they just let me sign both bits
