Just wondering if anyone could help with my situation.

Just passed 2330 level 2 and going onto the level 3 next year. I'm now working in the trade and my tutor said that I can also do the NVQ level 3 so ill be doing two courses in one year. I have looked around some sites and from what I have seen, you need the NVQ level 2. Rather confused so if anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it.

no you can do the l3 without the l2 nvq. also it`s not like a course so don`t worry about that one. it`s just work that you will be doing every day anyway but just taking evidence of you doing it. you will build up a portfolio of evidence. some people call it a site diary they are both the same.

Don't bother with the level 2, i believe that it is not recognised by employers, and it isn't recognised by the JIB for grading purposes.
Go straight to the NVQ 3, cos that, along with your 2330 L3 & 17th edition will get you JIB grading as an electrician.

I did it about a year and half ago, and its easy. Its just documentation of you doing your job on site, just like phil said.

Cheers lads

Am I right in thinking that you still have to do the 2330 level 3? Would the NVQ level 3 also mean I'm JIB registered or would I have to complete the 17th edition for that? Pretty exciting times for me at the moment hence the questions!

yes you still need to do the 2330 level3, and yes you need the 17th edition, as well as the NVQ 3 to become JIB graded. it is beneficial to have a JIB (also called ECS) card,as most sites now ask for it.

also when you do the nvq l3 it will when you exempt you from taking the ecs test when you have passed the nvq so you can just apply for the jib card. saves you about 30 quid. the jib card is 25 on it`s own

Ah right. Didn't realise that. Certainly would be a time and money saver. Thanks for the advice. Just need to stump up ÂŁ1400 to do both courses (or whatever it costs). Tried to get the 17th edition free when I was signing on, but they said they only provide it to people who need it when they have a employer in mind. Surely that isn't the point when you're on job seekers since its there to help provide you with a job! What a government.
