So, who signed up for the NVQ3 before it all changes?
XS training hopefully got me signed up on time.... They tried on the 31st but the C&G site was having problems, so fingers crossed they acknowledge the email sent and sign me up for the old course.

make sure you try get the NVQl3 (site-diaries as we used to call them) back if possible, a big regret i have - maybe thats me been a sentimental bugger but would love to look through that massive chunky file i submitted at the time.

Xs will let you sign up until the 7th as late entrants but may have to pay a late registration fee of ÂŁ80 so ÂŁ550+ vat +80 if you want to register before the 7th The telephone induction takes about an hour and your assessor will guide you through the system and how to upload evidence and start site diaries otherwise its the NVQ part of the 2357 for ÂŁ1250 + vat or some have heard as much as ÂŁ2500k and may need quals cross matching over the new framework for apprentices is the 2357 which is the new technical diploma and NVQ in one and also the AM2 and the technical part has a new unit i believe for renewablesand now for adult learners there is a newer technical cert which is the 2365 i believe and then you will still have to do the NVQ part of the 2357 also and AM2 which will be a lot more expensive than the 2330 and 2356 NVQI also here there is a new NVQ for domestic installations only coming out in april to be a Qualified supervisor to join a scheme and I beleive should be available now and to also be a QS for commercial /industrial From April there is a new NVQ diploma for building / structures and the environment so new Prposed Qs will need one of the newer above quals after April more money more scamsYou can cover a lot of the NVQ with domestic but you will need another working environment such as commercial or industrial or agricultural etcAll I can say if there is anyone still wishing to do the NVQ 2356 then get onto Xs training now and prey you still have time otherwise the costs increase from then on thanks to Torys and all other money grabbing schemes and scams

I also here there is a new NVQ for domestic installations only coming out in april to be a Qualified supervisor to join a scheme and I beleive should be available now and to also be a QS for commercial /industrial From April there is a new NVQ diploma for building / structures and the environment so new Prposed Qs will need one of the newer above quals after April…

If you look at the EAS documents from the IET it looks like someone with the 2356 and 2391 would meet the equivalent criteria for both the new domestic and commercial/industrial QS requirements.

I feel the new NVQ requirements are good I know some will disagree but it will stop Electrical Trainee setting up on their own, as to register they will need the NVQ appropriate time their area of expertise. Even new NAPIT, stromal, etc members would need the NVQ to comply with the EAS requirements which are used for their UKAS accreditation.

Another thing I thought about is how will existing scheme members cope who did the 5wk course and got a "part p" cert which lasts 5yrs? EAL have abandoned their domestic installer qualification due to the new NVQ requirements.

I may be being an optimistic but maybe the trade isn't going down the pan. I don't think people should be stopped from coming into the trade but their should be "official" and defined routes.

Didn't know any of that - learn something new every day...hope what you've said is completley true, because its refreshing.

Couldn't agree more. I'm still pesimistic, and won't believe anything untill the current setup changes. Electrical Trainee as everyone will agree is a complete joke, makes a mock of everyone that's done it the proper, correct and professional route. Something has to change, and providing you're correct Andrew it looks a step in the right direction

Question, everyone that has done the Electrical Trainee and has set-up on their own...when they're registration is up for renewal does this mean they'll be refused even though they've already been registered? Or, isit that everyone who has gone the Electrical Trainee route at the moment has slipped the net and we have to put up with them?

Heres the link to the EAL pages I've read:

www(dot)eal(dot)org(dot)uk/news-archive/58/882
www(dot)eal(dot)org(dot)uk/news-archive/62-industry-news/374-changes-to-industry-standards-for-electrical-work

and the IET EAS documents are available from:

electrical(dot)------(dot)org/building-regulations/eas/index.cfm

(sorry about the web-links can't post hyperlinks yet not enough posts. just replace (dot) with a fullstop.

My understanding is that these part p courses give you a 5yr certificate of "competence" for scheme enrolment, the way i see it is, that once NVQ L3 is the only way to become a QS going forward these courses should start to disappear. I can imagine there will still be loopholes as I can't imagine the CPS operators want too lose out on cash.

If i recall correctly you bypass the need for NVQ L3 as a QS if you have been registered as a QS in the last 2yrs so this would include the Electrical Trainee but also those who became a QS with an old fashioned apprenticeship before NVQs and such.

I also feel we need a stronger definition of a electrician rather than "Competent" but clear qualification boundaries + experience.
