hi what are the main regulations for an office enviroment with regards to lighting where people are using computers all day eg is it a legal requirement to use cat 2 lights and emergency fittings. Also any other factors that need working to.sorry for the question but not done any commercial before so just want to get up to speed before i take this job on.Any help appreciated

Cat 2 is not a specification now used.
You could try reading the attached document to get an idea of the requirements (the SLL lighting handbook has been updated for 2012 this is the 2009 version.) If you are getting a new install done then contact the manufacturer from which you will be purchasing and ask them to prepare a lighting plan, the design of lighting can be quite complex.

Women will ALWAYS complain about the lighting giving them head aches and that there too bright etc etc etc, no complaints from men in the same office though...hmmmm:screwy:

Anyway in the past with fluorescent lighting we have installed different colour tubes...172 I think the code was instead of the 535s that are most common. The light is slightly more blue but designed for use in computer environments this joined with the CAT 2 diffusers solves the problems. The 172 tubes are 4x the price of 535s though. 535s used to be £1 and the 172s £4...

Although the women just ask us to take them out instead...
