so a new Amendment 3 board , to me it will be the cause of the fire in the first place neutral bar split when torqued to the required setting and it was the manufacturers side wont [ElectriciansForums.net] oh dear oh dear progress eh[ElectriciansForums.net] oh dear oh dear progress eh be buying any of these boards again

Wasn't blaming amendment 3 mate , just what was claimed to be a AM 3 Board , my thoughts on the new requirements for consumer units is you should address the problems of why the boards are catching fire and rectify that in the first place , if you have a bucket with a hole in it , you fix the hole , and same should be done with consumer unit fires , prevention is best thats what i say

I have my opinion also, but I do agree with your bucket analogy.

Gives a slight insight to why AM3 brought in the new regulations over consumer units, its alot to do with years and years of mass produced budget gear failing in this manor and rather than tighten the regulations to the manufacturers they drop the bomb in our lap, the manufacturers just change the housing and fit the exact same crap in the middle.

Of course its not always the cause but looking at the pics this is a poorly designed component as the main N terminal is too close to the end of the busbar and any stress can flex out on the thin end wall and split like it has done (just a few more mm thickness on the end wall would have avoided this), couple this with an inexperienced lad thinking its still tight so it will do and you have your recipe for a burn out.

I've always said that the quality of the terminations from the manufacturers plays a big part of this. Thank you for showing it.

Busbars of the past were much better than what they are now. Terminal screws these days are made from a metal just below the level of blueTac!!!

A 1970's Henley block....... have you ever seen one that has burnt out?

We just need better quality materials to work with. Hopefully the Worlds manufacturers find this thread via a google search and see what we are talking about?
