I was testing some old oil dashpot overload relays on a ventilation panel. (It was a Cutler-Hammer 1006G oil dashpot). The dashpot plunger was jammed and the relay couldn't operate. I opened up the dashpot and found thick sludge deposit of oil causing the plunger/plate to seize.
I would like to clean up and service the dashpots and put the relay back in service. However, I'm not quite sure what kind of oil to use. The relay manual mentions 15/40 oil. Is this equivalent to the 15w40 SAE oil, which is basically engine/ motor oil?
