OLCI electrical course

N

neoinwales

Hello everyone,

Are there anybody who are or have completed OLCI's electrician courses? I am v grateful if you could tell me something about the course and the current situation after the trainings.

I am very confused at the moment after compared two local training centres' courses.

One promise the following qualifications:

Part P EAL Domestic Electrical Installer - Full Scope
The 17th Edition of IEE Wiring Regulations - City & Guilds 2382
Certificate in Fundamental Inspection and Testing - City & Guilds 2392-10
Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations - City & Guilds 2391-10

PAT Testing (Optional)

The other (OLCI) course incl.

• EAL Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers inc. Part P
• 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds 2382-10)
• Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification (City & Guilds 2392-10)
• In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (City & Guilds 2377)
• Solar Photovoltaic (PV) certificate

City & Guilds Certificate in Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations (2391) - additional

Which is better? for the work finds prospective. JIB registration requires 2356, doesn't it?

Thanks in advance,

Neo

Universities charge tuition fees, does that mean they guarantee you will walk out with a law degree at the end? No

Do they guarantee you get on with a decent law firm once you are qualified? No

I've had a look through their website, could you show me where OLCI mention the word guarantee anywhere...

It's down to the individual to work hard, complete and pass the assessments and exams and get themselves work whether it be agency, for a company as an improver, self employed if they have the guts until they are experienced and confident enough to have a go at the on site assessments.

As The99Cat said he did the training found a job and completed his 2356, sounds like hes doing well, congrats btw!

I never said they did mention the word guarantee. But the way it's worded on their website it appears that you can gain the 2356 prior to being employed in the industry*. I was under the impression it was very difficult to get the evidence for the 2356 if this was the case.

*This is the passage, from their website, I refer to;
These electrical courses include all your practical workshops/assessments at one of our nationwide centres, and all theory units/assessments to study and complete at home. All our electrical courses prepare you for industry-recognised qualifications.

Maybe they mock-up the scenarios so the evidence can be gained that way?
Also, having read The99Cat's post again, it appears that he got both quals before gaining work.

The reason I keep coming back to this is that I don't have the NVQ3 and it appears a real sticking point to 'getting a foot in the door' as a number of job advertisements stipulate that an NVQ3 is required. I thought it was impossible to gain the NVQ3 without being employed as a trainee sparky, but maybe this isn't the case?

Hi I'm looking at an electrical training course. From what Ive heard on short courses the OLCI seems the best. I'm only really looking at domestic installing as a 2nd career not industrial so does the OLCI give me what I need to do this. Please advise
