I need to run a 16m swa for a new mains board in a extension (not possible to wire new circuits from existing mains board) can I use old colour cable, I found it today looking through my old stock.

For what it`s worth, i`d use it up too (& have done recently) Providing its sleeved correctly, whats the difference? Elecsa even concede this point in their guidance notes - err...somewhere!

Is the existing house in old colours? if yes then its a bit naughty but nice but I wouldn't do it in a house with new colours

Respect your view mate, but i think you`ve missed the point i was making - that sleeved correctly i (& atleast Elecsa if not others) don`t see any difference between using Harmonised coloured cable or old colour cable unambiguously identified with exact same Harmonised colours. I`m talking covering ALL exposed insulation in suitably fitting PVC sleeving so no possibility of confusion exists. I`d regard that as unambiguous!
If you`d chose not to then i fully accept that, no problemo. However, i (& others) really don`t see the above as anything less than perfectly acceptable. Ironic i`lll admit, but i see using the old core colours, unmodified, as rather unprofessional.
