Went out today to fit some lovely shiney new metal switch plates........

Not only no earth in lighting circuit but so past its sell by date it crumbled on movement.

How can this sort of thing not be picked up on survey or mentioned by previous sparks....recent kitchen refit.

The whole place is rubber and really had it, not seen one this bad for a while.

Danger notice issued.

When did they first start installing the rubber cables?

"if its an elderly couple over 60's grants are available for this type of sinario" ????

What grants are available to the over 60's for this scenario are they the same type that are available for boiler upgrades and insullation etc

Well think you answered yourself .......kitchen fit, kitchen fitter so only part scope

typical sparks all too ready to knock kitchen fitters:mad:. were not all bad you know. I get tired of listening to people bangin on about us. theres good and bad in all trades. Including sparks i,ve personally come across & put right bad jobs from a so called qualified sparks with there ficticious test results. i,m a full scope kitchen fitter by the way.

Which part of what I wrote was a go at kitchen fitters?

Out of 100 kitchen fitters you are most likely in a group of perhaps 3 that are full scope. The chances are then that these fitters were part scope. With Part P and schemes offering part scope to all asundry, most kitchen, plumbers and gas companies have someone that is Part scope working for them.

If the Fitters were Part Scope then they have no recourse to advise officially on the state of an installtion. I would though have hoped they advised their client that the installation is old, and perhaps they should get an Electrician in who is able to carry out a full PIR to check on the state of the installation.

If they were full scope like you, then I would have expected at the very least for them to have written to the client advising them on what they found, that you were able to offer a full PIR on the installation that would ascertain the safety of it, and outline where it would need improving. But if they were not interested in getting the remedial work, they as full scope would have a care of duty to advise the client that something needed to be done.

I appologise for taking it the wrong way but sparks do have a habit of bangin on about it.Usually thinking were taking work off them (my opinion) what they dont seem to realise is that fitters like me have allways done electrical work in kitchens exept now hopefully, they are more knowledgeable and complying with regs etc. I agree with most of what you said but I think you will find that most kitchen companys have a dedicated sparks whether employed or subby, approx 30%+ of 1 man band fitters like me are full scope, another 65%+ use subbys, Like any trade its the rest of the cowboys you have to watch out for. So 95%+ of jobs if there were any dangerous/none compliances etc would be acted upon whether the fitter is part p or not. They should have also picked up on any potential problems before the work started on the survey assuming that they did one.
appoligies once again & hopefully Ive just outlined the problems that all trades have COWBOYS.:D

Durham are they the round brass switches? Done a rewire in the summer on an all-VIR system.... the customer wanted the integrity of the house preserved, and they do a near perfect replica in TLC with one big difference - it has an earth lug! They are about 17 quid each mind but fair do's they looked proper in the end.

they are a mixture of MEM 60's switches, Round brass switches, round brown and square brown switches..! oh and the Tennat also has 2 pin sockets in the property still (although no longer in use)

no its a rental property Rocker! landlord wants basic white plastic and even surface mounted cables!
