Having lived in Australia for the last 28 years I want to know if my old City & Guilds "B" & "C" certificates are still considered as current qualifications, and will I be allowed in the UK to work,
or do I have to take some other refresher courses to start up an electrical business?

Unless your coming back for unavoidable reasons STAY WHERE YOU ARE.
Life over here is not good and the economy is getting worse not better, after over 20yrs in business one way or another I've never known it this bad. Many business people I speak to think its going to be least 5 yrs before any sign of a proper recovery. Remember folks the banking system collapsed completly, we gave them taxpayers money and they are very reluctant to use it for supporting a recovery. Instead they use it for their own ends letting the average Joe suffer.

What a load of crap

The industry is certainly turning. This week I was on a job, where they needed 2 sparks, so the firm I am working, decided to get in 2 agency sparks, where the rate was 16.88, quite reasonable, but when the 2 sparks found out they would be getting less than the hours they was on site (minus 30 mins for lunch break) they both jacked. A clear indication that the industry has indeed turned, well in the south east at least.

It doesnt sound to easy, but acheivable.

Bureaucracy will be the hard bit.

turning my arse!. for £16.88 i'd rip their hand off. up here the agencies are offering £9/hour. 17th and cscs/ecs card, then the job is 60 miles travel each way at your own expense. it ain't turning, mate. it's getting worse.

Just about all statistics of employment opportunity and business success is SE orientated

The SE is a completely different land to most other parts where there is no recovery,no jobs ,no hope

We must remember the power and those who hold the reigns of power live and work in this fairytale land

Even with the wealth and power and living in that fairytale land,they dont share that wealth amongst themselves having poor areas of its own

The average wage of any job that becomes available in my land is the bare minimum wage and the trades jobs are virtually non existent,

Im in the south east, central london. and agencies are only paying £10 squid the best ive seen is £15 and they want you to be NICEIC reg, taking the mick. also there is a lot of jobs for meter fitters whats that all about?
depending on how far up north you are i would say that your £9 squid is like having a job down south paying £18 squid, so the £10 squid they are offering is like £4 squid up north.
you go to sites and they say what agencies you from, they aint realy intrested in direct employment.

This was my point in another thread. Lads saying 20ph on domestics wasn't enough. Problem is people are willing to work as a full on spark for 10ph now and the competition is fiercer than I thought. Along with these kitchen fitter sand alike takeing OUR work

Do you think the authorities would train sparks to build a roof because we are putting cables on the joists..................NO.

People forget about the Olyimic effect in the promised land. Any how lads nice to know I'm not the only one that talks crap. It seems most of us outside the SE do!!!!!
