Hi, can anyone of you clever lot out there help me out.

I've got a ceiling rose with two twin and earth cables in old colours ( red, black ) and a single red switch wire to the lamp. The twin and earths are going to the loop live and neutral terminals, as seen in the photo attachment. I needed to move this ceiling rose by a couple of feet but no length on the cables so i took them to a four terminal junction box and connected as was in the ceiling rose. I then took a twin and earth from the respective loop live, neutral and earth terminals to the new ceiling rose. I then took a twin brown with one core cut back from the single red switch wire to the switched live on the new ceiling rose. the lamp stays on no matter which way it is switched. A friend of mine told me it is the old way of wiring and i believe the feed is taken to the switch first. One other point to mention is that one of the twin and earths and the singles appears to come up a conduit from the upstairs two way switch. Any help gents would be much appreciated.

What you have there is the old way of wiring a two lighting point, the two twins are loop in loop out and the single is the switch line from one of the two way switches, you will probably find the feed for the two way is picked up at the other switch with a pair of strappers between the two switches.
To reposition your light make off a JB at the original position, 2 lives 2 neutrals and 1 S/L and take a twin and cpc to the new position connecting into the J/B at the single and Neutral terminals, giving yourself an extended S/L and N Simples

If I've understood you right you could have done it with one twin and earth from junction box to rose, but instead you've done (no offence) monkey see monkey do to replicate the existing setup which I can understand, although you would have been better to get a sparky in. Did your twin brown have an earth wire in it, if so what if anything did you do with it? Did you cut back the spare brown at both the rose end and the junction box end? Did you put earth sleeve over your bare earth wires in the junction box and rose?
