I may regret this!

It would depend on the installation- type of use, overall condition of repair, type of customer near it or using it.
If all the conditions are favourable, i.e instalation in good repair careful customers, not likely to abuse the system - I would note it as an "observation" not neccesarily hazardous or dangerous to persons but requiring repair.

If the conditions are not favourable, and the installation is in a poor state, with customers abusing systems , I would code it as a "2" requiring improvement - but not unsatiafactory

To be fair no more dangerous than the front lid (MCB guard) on a modern cu missing.

Code 1 for me............
Can I get a standard finger in the unit ? I believe the busbar is just visible if the spark cover is missing and it would certainly be easy to stick a screwdriver inside.
Also, the enclosure is damaged, strictly speaking.
However, I would make a judgement based on the actual installation and we all know what we would recommend the client do with that unit.

excuse my ignorance of your terminology, but what bit is it you are referring to as the spark guard.

ah, the one that is always broken by somebody trying to cut it out for MCBs. i would give it a code 2 and try and get a CU change out of it.

sorry just re read the question. not internal doh. code 1 doesnt meet ip ratings i think.

But the IP should be 2X so is there a 12mm gap between that and access to live parts?

Probably not, so technically, no code, however, considering what can happen when a BS3036 takes a decent fault current, I probably would end up at a code 2.

was he trying to fish a cable. i find a coat hanger invaluable, except around live cables/parts

lol , he was hanging his coat up , and dropped it , its one of those wiard and bizzar accidents that could have been fatal all will be reveiled soon

Lol ok his consumer unit was just below waist height , whilst putting his coat on a hanger he dropped it picking it up he hooked straight into the open exposed terminal of the fuse carrier luckly for him he was holding[ElectriciansForums.net] Old Wylex consumer unit with BS3036 the hanger through his coat so any fuse cover missing on these boards will be a CODE 1 ,heres the pic and spot which fuse he got the hanger stuck in [ElectriciansForums.net] Old Wylex consumer unit with BS3036
