Telectrix is in the right ball park. Your'e quote is a bit cheap. Is the bloke who has undercut you getting paid in Zlottys by any chance.
If he is, then tomorrow morning he will be in screwfix car park looking for a Sparky to ask "How do i wire up house". Search for my post "Why do i spend £500" if you dont see where i am coming from.

Cheers......Howard

remember it well. what he should do is inform LABC that the house is being rewired. i.e. give notice. then stand back and watch the brown stuff fly when they find it's going to cost em another £300+

the way i see it is they just want a quote so they can see if its inline with what they are already getting it done for.

can you not charge a call out fee at least for the quote or is there anyway round this , as we all know its happening to much??

The trap you don't want to fall into is worrying about being under cut by other 'sparkies'.

End of the day the work they do for the price they give will not be of a very good standard. They are going to have to use low budget accessories and rush the job to make it worthwhile doing it to make a living off it.

This works for so long but they wont get the recommendations that you will get by quoting at the right price, not rushing and doing the job properly.

You just need to stick to your guns and reap the rewards of future recommendations.

Sometimes people say this for you to come back with a counter offer....Their 'family friend' may not even exist.

Also they may just not have wanted you to do the job and had to think off an excuse to tell you that you didn't get it. Some humans don't half faf about having to turn people away....instead making stories up to save face.

Thanks for the moral support. the job was in Blackpool.

Its so frustrating pricing jobs because its seems that everyone knows sumone who will do it cheaper.

As some of you mentioned abovethe customer doesnt question the quality of the cheap quote or even ask if theyd receive a certificate!

There just happy to save some money.

Sounds like it could have been a case of "get a real spark in to do a free quote and I'll do it cheaper".
Then once they've got the job they'll worry about how to make money on it - pennies could be pinched on things like scheme membership, notification.... Oh and getting some other sucker to do the free quote.

You are too dear !
You have got to be having a laugh , more like to too cheap by half ! Would not even entertain it for less than 4000 - 4500 plus vat and it would have to be void . I take it you were going to chase , not lick and stick ( SA 2 mini trunking ) . We moan about the domestic side not making much margin down here in bucks but that is obscene . Mate it takes years to get there , then some 5 minute wonder comes and does this , why bother with the training , certs , insurance the bad payers and the hypocrisy of the governing body's ( I remember the fist part p inspect i had , the fella was a kitchen fitter 3 weeks before and when he saw our check box didn't know what it was , when told what it was . "Said thats a good idea i will tell them about it at the office" !!!! ) sorry to rant but we are highly qualified and should be treated as such . lol

here here! Agree with this, to many people are out the taking the pi$$ out of us now. Part P has changed nothing in my eyes.

We should be well aware that price is the governing factor

We compete against those who do not comply with the law, because the law is not enforced in any way

The law has been a negative addition to the industry, because in its pathetic attempt at control, it has allowed defined scope kitchen fitters etc to operate in our market under an umbrella of competence

Compliance with that law has been just an added burden for law abiding sparks when in competition with the care less outfits
We as electricians, should now dis associate ourselves from ths part p nonesense until a system is introduced that promotes trainied and experienced persons to do the work,
rather than the opposite (which is what has occured since its inception)

I for one, will, after april, not be re newing scheme membership, and will carry on knowingly and fearlessly doing notifyable work without any repurcussions
The sooner others take this attitude the sooner the un enfoced nonesense is binned
