I have three light switches indoors, 2 for lights indoors and 1 for the outside light. When I removed the cover off the light outside I see 2 blue wires going to the bulb, 2 brown wires wired together but not attached to anything and the 2 earths earthed to the light cover.

1: What are the brown wires actually doing?

2: 2 blue wires going to a bulb, what's that all about?

I understand what wires go where on the senor by looking at the diagrams, but it says the brown should be going to the bulb after the senor.

Please help!

Blues will be 1 switched live (should have a sheath or marker on it which would be brown to show it is a switched live and the other is the neutral. Browns *MAY* be lives which are looped there for some reason or other.

you could do with using a tester to work out what is what, as you are going to be hard pressed to work out which wires are doing what without one.

As long as the existing wiring is approved for outdoor use and everything is working as planned then there is no need to replace the wiring.

That will work fine as long as the Pirs use relay switching, some don't.
