Oven elements help!!

Is it possible to run 2 oven elements (under 3kw total output) on the one 13amp plug??

I want to create a powder coating oven made from a small metal office cabinet, however every double oven i can find is rated way above the 3kw max rated for a 13amp supply, therefore i wanted to see if i could use one 1500w element, and then buy another and just simply attach it to the existing wiring, or am i being silly?? I havent tried it but i doubt just 1 element will be able to keep the heat at 200°c in a large space.

Or if anyone else knows of a way to get around this then please post below!

get a spark to install you a dedicated 32A supply for the oven.

Are you also going to seal up the doors and use a fan?
There is a brand of oven called a blue seal turbo fan..
For their power (2.8kw element) they are the best ovens on the market..
They use a very efficient type of fan to heat up a large capacity oven

Yes i would seal the doors so that they are as good as can be, but still able to open/close them. I didn't really want to put a fan in there as i have read many posts where the fan has reduced the temp in such a large space...

I live in a rented house at the moment so don't really want to be paying anyone to put in a 32a supply if i can help it! it looks like the breakers in my consumer box are 32a for the sockets anyway but i'm guessing that this would be for all sockets and would likely trip if i used the oven and other sockets in the house at the same time?

I have an old gas oven which has an electric grill with a 650w element, could i just buy a 2800w element and replace it?

The internal wiring may not be large enough to take the extra load of a 2.8kw element.
Are you wanting the chamber to be hotter at the top?

well i will place the temperature probe in the upper middle of the cabinet where the parts will be hanging so i can get a representative reading, i just need it to hold a temp of up to 200degc and i dont think a 650watt element will do. I think either 2 x 1500w or one 2800w would be better but i just don't know how to wire it up!

Yes you can do it !
but you are pushing it to the edge
most electricians would be un comfortable with it
as it would not be considered "Best practice".

How big is a large space?

You will be able to heat with just one element, however, the insulation will need to be good.

Just depends on how fast you want this unit to heat to 200deg.

Its a small metal office cabinet, 1m high, 0.9m wide and 0.4m depth, so not that big, but still one element i think will struggle! Was thinking about either firepeoof board or some of the aluminium backed glass wool insulation, or something to that effect

Insulate it well, an you shouldn't have a problem raising it to 200degC.

However, what is the maximum rating of your heating element. Is 200degC it's maximum?

You may be better looking at getting a ceramic heater. Usually capable of reaching 1000deg C. Control with a decent thermostat.

You could use something like that rated at around 1kW and it wouldn't take overly long to heat it up.
