Re: Mentors Wanted For Trainees

Yes, that's right. If you only get reimbursed 10p per mile then when you do your tax return you can claim 35p pe rmile. After 10,000 miles in the tax year the rate is 15p that you can claim. But, you do need to keep accurate travel records. Even if you do make this claim it is still not as good as the company reimbursing you 45p and I think it is real mean of them. They should know that it costs more than just petrol to run a vehicle.

Tony I think there's a bit of a grey area there, I'm employed at one place of work (which is whatever site I am on at that time) I'm not paid to use my own car to travel between sites, (therefore not business use) I'm only paid an amount towards fuel above 15 miles as the crow flies from the office (up to 15 miles classed as travelling to work of own accord???) so at the moment I'm getting £9 per day to travel 90 miles round trip which is 10p per mile, rubbish

You need to check this I've had many conversations with insurance companies some do take the view that carrying your tools to and from site is business use.

It's not clear in your post does your employer move your place of employment from site to site or does your employer have an office away from the site that you are working on that is classed as your place of employment in you contract of employment that may have some bearing on how your expenses are paid

Make sure you refuse to carry materials in your car, for several reasons.
One being insurance.
One being f u.
