hi guys,
have been asked to do a pir on a 3 bed place then other works also, i am setting up on my own but am not up and running yet! should i wait to do pir, or can i do it now, are there any legalities of doing it? e.g do i need liability insurance 1st? also what price would you charge? do you think ÂŁ250/ÂŁ300 is too steep?
cheers in advance guys!

Hi,
You can do a pir without being registered with anybody but im not sure about the insurance, I think that is up to the indevidual. To be on the safe side I would have it though, it only costs around ÂŁ70 for the year. On the price side I would normally charge per circuit takeing into account any limitations i.e not taking up floor boards, only testing a % of the installation etc. I useually charge about ÂŁ35 per circuit. There is a web site called "What price" where sparkys and customers have put on the amount they charge/been charged for different jobs.
http://www.whatprice.co.uk/prices/electrician/periodic-electrical-inspection.html

There is a bit on the site that gives more detailed job descriptions. Just click that and there loads of electrical stuff.

Hope this helps?

Jay

Legally no. However carrying out such work uninsured would be pretty stupid IMO.
With PIR inspections you will ideally seek both liability and indemnity insurance.
Price will depend on area, ÂŁ250/300 does seem a little steep to me and I work in the London area. When I do a PIR of this size I allow for 1 days labour at ÂŁ200. If it is a bigger property then it will vary.

cheers guys! im in oxfordshire so everything bloody expensive over here, hahaha!
have been doing them now for about 5 years with my company so the competency thing is fine, im just trying to time everything so when i take the big leap i don't fall short if u no what i mean. will check out that site jay cheers!!!
