There are 3 panel heaters which have both supplies connected to it.

The peak supply is controlled via a 4 zone programmer which I' ok with. The off peak supply to each heater is via a contactor in the CU. The switch circuit for the contactor is fed via a 6amp MCB, but can't find where or what the switch is.

I know the contactor is working as I have had it switching by feeding the switch wire directly from an MCB.

Can anyone give ideas of what is going to be used to switch the off peak supply through the contactor.

Thanks:cool:

Amp Dave, you say that the contactor energises when you give it a direct / peak supply. The contactor could also switch / energise from the off peak supply. In some of the single immersion heater control switches, the element is fed from the peak supply via a boost switch or time clock through n/c contacts on a relay. When the off peak supply is 'live' the relay coil energises & switches the supply over , as the n/c contacs change to the n/o which are closed on energising the coil. Hope this info helps, regards piccollo

Thatswhat I was thinking, but the guy who lives in the flat says that the storage heater part has never been warm. Suppose I will have to get hold of a key for the meter cupboard and see if the switching for the contactor is in there.

Cheers piccollo

You only need to switch the lines and the contactor is rated per pole so for example a 16A four pole contactor would be fine.
