I had an amiable meeting with the HSE Electrical Inspector yesterday, who mentioned that Part P applied to Hotels.

I'm just kinda getting opinions here: According to BRB and Part P - as far as I understand them, Hotels are Commercial enterprises and not dwellings.

General concensus much appreciated

It is our understanding that where grey areas exist, LABC will default to the rateable category of the building. So, if they pay commercial rates, its EAWR, if they pay domestic, Part P.

I have also had it said (and need to get in writing) that staff quarters/living accommodation "on the premises" provided in the course of employment is also commercial - and hence NOT Part P - if there was a prosecution, it would be under EAWR (much tougher) rather than building regs.

If in doubt, at all, best to ring the LABC and ask them on a case by case basis.
