Hi All,

I am looking into completing a part p course to get qualified so I can do small electrics along with the plumbing and gas that I have already been doing for 9 years, I would like to be able to supply wires to boilers move or fit any electrics in bathrooms or anything that comes along with the plumbing jobs I already do.

Is the part p course all I need to do?

once I'm qualified would I need to re sit this course at any time in the future

once I'm qualified what tools would I need to invest in and can you advise how much these would these would approximately cost?

I should imagine I will need to register every year how much would this cost?

is there any other course you think I would need to do like 17 edition etc.

also I would like to learn how to wire up external boiler controls from the junction box or any wiring that comes with fitting or replacing boilers if anyone could point me in the right direction to learn this.

I have taken a break in plumbing am working on offshore wind turbines with a shift pattern which allowes me enough time off to do courses whilst earning a wage.

I am booked onto a 3 week tiling course so I can tile the bathrooms I fit
I am looking to do any electrics that comes along with plumbing

I think having two extra skills will keep me busy self employed once I get back into it.
If you think of any other courses or skills I could gain please advise me.

I thank you all in advance for people who are kind enough to share some information with me.

Craig

evening college course, 3 years, then nvq3, am2, and 17th ed. then a couple of years working supervised, and then you're good to go. easier to stick to the plumbing & tiling. get an electrician to do the electrical work.

Hi pete999

I am sorry you feel like that, I have trained up two plumbing trainees and also allowed people to come along with me for experience, if that means in a couple of years time I lose out a quote to one of them then that's the way it is. If people want to expand and better themselves I am all for helping people because that's the way I am. As for people on this forum who have the same positive attitude like I do I welcome your constructive answers.

I think he sounds well intentioned. A little naive, but well intentioned.

There are plenty of bathroom installers doing a half arsed (sometimes dangerous) job. And craig wants to gain skills and turn out good work.

Unfortunately craig, there's a bit more involved than I think you're expecting to this

With respect, isn’t that just business. ?
Like when sparks diversify :juggle2:

I’d say getting a spark is better on a few levels.
Customer confidence.
Devolving responsibility for the electrical installation, and paperwork.
Possibility of a mark up, for making arrangements and liaising with spark.

Off to watch the match ! :icon12:

Its not just doing the "electrics," its knowing how to check out if its safe to do any additions or alterations first.Which means having considerable knowledge and experience, and also all the correct test equipment.
