Hi I'm just looking for a bit of advice. I'm hoping to do my own jobs. I have my NVQ Level 3, am2, 17th edition and my ECS Card. I'm hoping to be classed on the competent scheme which my local building inspector asks for. What is the minimum I need to achieve to be able to do this. Thanks

you have all you need on the technical side. PL insurance and some other srtuff will be required. why not contact one of the scams ( niceic, elecsa, napit, stroma ) and they can tell you exactly what youneed and the procedure for joining.

You will need to register with HMRC for your 2nd income and get prepared with templates for quotes/estimates and invoices. The schemes also expect you to have the latest regs books, calibration certs in your name for your tester and other docs.

I joined Stroma last year after 5 years with Elecsa. They wanted to see "sample" certs over the period I had been with Elecsa!
Ah yeah now you mention it I think I had to show mine in the first year, but with the OP's quals I wouldn't think there would be a problem? My first Stroma assessment was a nightmare but the last one a month ago was just the opposite, had a really great guy come to do it.

Unfortunately it is the case!

Shown them various EIC's & MWC's for the past year and they want it back further - proving difficult as I'm not exactly on good "speaking terms" with previous employer!

Went with STROMA today. Great guy, put me at ease. A fairly thorough process. About fifty question, 20% building regs the rest scientific principles and regs etc. Lots of documents flying about. Complaints procedure, Method statement, Qualifications at level 3, Risk assessments (just a couple) took 2 hours then off to site. Asked to do Ze, Zs and full RCD trip test plus inspecting earth conductor (size, termination etc.) and main services bonding. Safe isolation observation. That was it really. A bit intense on the paperwork etc. As I was only applying for domestic installer I was surprised they asked me about EICR on the tech questions as I wasnt asking for condition reporting. But as it happens I had just done 300 pages of commercial EICR and just flopped them on the table which when he briefly glimpsed over them put that one to bed. Just a bit odd though ! All in all not bad at all.

Applied to Stroma over two weeks ago and they have no bothered to reply to me even after a follow up phone call to esnure thay had actually recieved it!? Not overly impressed with the customer service so far!

I found that they were very quick to respond, so it may be that they are finding a lot of applicants coming over and are struggling to cope with demand. However their admin is atrocious to put it very mildly.
The notifications go through though!
