does building regs alow us to knock out the occasional brick?
just wondering i have in the past done it as when necessary.

I can't recall a time when I've had to do it but common sense would say that because the building regs allow us to drill a hole in a joist they would allow a hole in a wall as long as the structural integrity was not compromised

got a rewire and sockets in conservatory being fed from under floorboards in bedroom.
they have all been put in the old cavity in the wall they have been cemented.
i have often removed bricks from under doorways or where no load, and ime sure removing one or two bricks as long as replaced after is fine.

I vaguely remember watching some documentary on some particular engineering crisis, and some boffins in a lab concluded that so long as the wall was built correctly to start with, you could remove nearly 50% of the alternate bricks before the thing would lose it's strength and collapse. Not sure I'd like to put it to the test!!!
