FYI, I just received this from the NICEIC:

"Some time ago you enquired about joining the NICEIC and I thought I would take a minute to go through some of our past enquiries to let you know about some upcoming changes that have been put in place.
As of April 6th 2013, the requirements to join a competent person’s scheme with any of the scheme providers will change. At the moment the only qualification required to join a scheme is a 17th edition. This will be changing to a range of different qualifications depending on what work or experience you have had.

This may mean that you are able to join a scheme at the moment but not be qualified enough to join after the 6th of April.
If you were to make an application to us before April then you would be absolutely fine on just the 17th edition qualification.

The new IET Document that has the changes in can be found here:
http://electrical.------.org/building-regulations/eas/index.cfm"

Further to my post above, does anyone know what the added qualifications, exams etc are if your not registered / approved by 6th April 2013 (last registration is 5th April 2013, as per NICEIC)? I am not sure whether to get Part-P qualified in the next 2 weeks and then start back at college towards full qualification or whether to get Part-P qualified, so that I can do domestic installs whilst I am still studying?

I believe there is a new Qualified supervisor C&G Qualification for domestic and another Diploma in Building sturcures basically new NVQ for qualified supervisor for commercial/industrial

existing Qualified Supervisors already meet the requirments

search this site or google as there is some info on it from IET, ECS , ECA

to join a shceme now you would need a job to show them that you have recently completed and min Qualification is C&G 2382 but you could always speak to them at either elecsa or one of the others but as april is approaching doesnt leave much time

The Electrotechnical Assessment Specification Management Committee (EAS) has agreed the implementation of the new Qualified Supervisors technical competence requirements to take effect from 6th April 2013.
The industry bodies represented on the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) Management Committee are pleased to announce that a new level 3 qualification has been developed.
There are five different routes satisfying the requirements for registration as a Qualified Supervisor, including on-site assessment, off-site assessment, a mixture of both and the gaining of appropriate qualifications.
Existing Qualified Supervisors
The new requirement will not apply retrospectively to existing Qualified Supervisors. Persons who already have a competency-based qualification as outlined in the EAS document will not need to have the new qualification if they apply to become a new Qualified Supervisor after 5th April 2013.
What about practising Qualified Supervisors applying before 6th April 2013?
The new requirement applies only to proposed Qualified Supervisors applying after 5th April 2013.
What about persons previously registered as Qualified Supervisors?
Persons who have been working as registered Qualified Supervisors within the two years proceeding 6 April 2013 will be eligible to be proposed as a Qualified Supervisor for a new employer without needing to demonstrate the new level of technical competence.
Qualification
For those choosing the qualification route, the new Level 3 qualification, a certificate in "Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings" will be available from Dec 2012. This will be the minimum qualification level for Qualified Supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales).
For compliance with Building Regulations in Scotland, Approved Certifiers of Construction for electrical installations must be eligible to be graded as Approved Electricians and be suitably qualified e.g. SVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent.
For work in commercial or industrial premises, the minimum qualification requirement for Qualified Supervisors will be the new Level 3 NVQ "Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Building and Structures)".
Appropriate Electrotechnical NVQ qualifications are currently certificated through two awarding organisations: City and Guilds (City & Guilds - vocational education awarding body) and EAL (... closer to industry).
For more information on Electrotechnical Level 3 NVQs, see the SummitSkills, City and Guilds and EAL websites.
