Hi chaps
Ive been asked to look at a job that involves getting power to a shed with a couple of sockets and a light, also adding 2 additional lights in the house { extending the circuit }.
Im a fully qualified sparks 2330 level 3 nvq 3 AM2 2391 but am not registered with a scheme as i have always been employed up to just before christmas.
Im currently out of work and this job down the road would be a nice little job for me, but not being registered with a scheme or wanting to pay them a huge amount to come and test and certificate it do i have any option other than to just decline the work.
thanks

Hi Mate,

new circuits require notification

So if your installing a new circuit to the shed then you have to notify through scheme or via LABC

Contact your LABC inform them of your Qualifications and ask do they have a register for qualified Electricians if no they will tell you wat there requirements are and cost in my area last time I asked it was ÂŁ190 a job

to join elecsa its ÂŁ444

Extending the circuit doesn't need to be notified see new part P document

Thanks bruce lee.... so if i was to just spur off the ring with a fcu then in theory im not installing a new circuit but just extending??
I know it limits her to just 13 amps but she assures me she just wants to be able to plug in a radio and have a light out there.

Yes Part P was and is a joke no one cared before and no one seems to care now since new changes so you could connect the shed to an existing MCB all part P seems to do is take hard earned money for very little in return

Yes could connect it via FCU then its extending a circuit

Aye very true bruce, I could get my wife to take the multi choice part p exam and she would probably pass it, she could then register with stroma for 250 quid and burn someones house down legally LOL

Thanks alot for your responses.....
MDJ your so right mate, from what i hear the part p exam is a joke but it seems more relevant than my 5 year apprenticeship and other tests ive had to fork out for the past few years.

Well at least you are a tradesman as far as we are concerned even if the powers that be don't care. Good on you and one day we will be reconised again and the part pee twits will be just a memory, I hope lol

Thanks murdoch.
To be honest im not entirely sure if im going to work self employed as of yet, im currently out of work and just grateful for anything i can get to pay the mortgage etc right now!
If i had a few reasonably sized jobs in the pipeline then i would then definately join Elecsa.
Not sure i can warrant joining a scheme as of yet as i dont know if i would get enough work.
