A bit of a relief as I had convinced myself I had messed it up and I know I was capable of doing a lot better. Maybe it is not so hard after all

What's the 2395 has it changed as I'm going to do the design course in September that's now 2396 which was 2340 and then 2391 20 can't keep up with all this changing lol

confusing isn't it!

from the city and guilds website..
2394 = Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
2395 = Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
2396 = Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations

From comments from my tutor and looking at past papers 2395 is basically the same as 2391-10 except all the exam questions are on periodics (i.e. no initial verification). I think 2396 is more a replacement for 2391-20 isn't it?

Mewff91: My advise is to get your hands on as many past papers (for 2391) as possible and practice. Then don't forget that 2395 is periodics only so any test sequences etc are for periodics rather than initial verification!

Well done and congratulations, any exam taken and passed is a feather in your cap
I have to comment though on these new numbers and which exam covers what discipline

I, as an electrician who has only recently seen these changes,I would not have had a clue until brmans explanation of what covers what
It all seems so overcomplicted and its possibly for good monetary reasons (Training centres)

If I were to employ someone in these times,I would need a course on understanding courses

The 2391 was so easy, it had to go by the looks of it, all because it was understood and widely accepted

Nevertheless, again, well done and congratulations on passing

I completely agree! To be honest, I wasn't completely sure what course I was doing until I actual did it. It was just sold as "the replacement for 2391".
To be fair though the old system confused me to. 2391-10, 2391-20, exam papers marked 2391-201 and 2391-301........

I am also not sure what 2394 gives you 2395 doesn't (compared to the old 2391-10). Sure the 2395 doesn't officially cover initial verification but it is the same as periodics with minor changes and the 2395 paper was at the same level as the 2391 past papers I had done so they haven't made it any easier by splitting it in two.

Maybe they decided that, due to the abysmal pass rate on 2391, they needed two courses to get people through it better? I do wonder if they expect people to do 2394 first then 2395 to make things a bit easier?

so why dont people just study a bit harder pass 2391 and then you dont need these other courses very confusing all these different courses ive had my 2391 since 1998 wondering when the day comes were you have to have a refreser hope not though

I don't think you even need to study harder to pass 2391. I found past papers on 2391 just as easy if not easier than the 2395 exam i did!
Actually, even though the subject is slightly narrower (not including initial verification) the 2395 is perhaps harder than 2391 as it has an extra multiple choice exam (ok, not a difficult one...). Oh, and did the 2391 practical have a section for identifying faults and coding them from pictures? 2395 does.

At the end of the day most people do 2391 to "prove" they have the knowledge to do periodics. So in that case 2395 is the obvious replacement.

the new ones are just being split up, so they make more money lol

which might backfire on them as I don't see any point in doing 2394 now I have 2395 :)
