Discuss Passed my 2395 :) in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Got my practical on Monday then then theory on 26th

Been told we have an assignment but they don't know on what as this is the first time they have done this course since it changed any tips

Well done by the way

Not sure if there are any example 2395 written papers available or not.

The first 2395 written paper (in April 2012) had 6 questions, 3 covering general topics and 3 covering a scenario.
The general topics were things like document names, inspection items plus codes and their meanings, what to do if something dangerous found, PFC measurement description and validation of breakers, domestic additional protection requirements etc.
The scenario was a shop with a description plus a schedule of test results, and having to identify the non-conformities and what C-codes you’d give them, plus one question was to draw out the usual earth fault path for one of the circuits, and a few other things like documents used etc.

Obviously the June paper will be different, but this might give you some idea.

Not sure what the assignment is about. We didn't have one.....

Oh that's odd wonder why we have an assignment todo they said we do that at home which seems pointless aswell

Thanks for the info about the previous course

Having just done the 2391 in May 2012, we were told that the 2395 and 2394 were not coming out until December 2012??? and they were the newer versions of the 2391 and 2392,,

If you visit C&G website, you can find (somewhere) the dates for 2394 and 2395. First written exams were this April (on consecutive days, if I recall), next ones are in late June. Someone has not been reading the C&G updates on the subject...

Makes you wonder why they are still doing the 2392 and 2391 then,,,dont it,,,,I suppose the next thing is they will say everyone has to update and take the 2394 and 2395,,,make some more money out of us???

I think the 2391 was originally scheduled to be replaced earlier (end 2011 maybe?) but as timescales for the replacements slipped, it was kept alive. Plus there are people who have completed part of 2391, and need to be allowed to complete the rest of it, so there has to be some overlap of old and new qualifications.

So just for a definitive answer to all this. Is the 2394 exam completely irrelevant and a waste of ÂŁ550 and in which case should I just be doing the 2395 as this will then qualify me to do electrical testing on all domestic and commercial properties.

I hate the way they keep creating more courses making it harder for us to find work and make money in time of recession!!

All advice is welcome as Im looking to book a course at the end of this week.

Thanks

I too have this dilemma , I have been trying to find out if 2395 covers Initial verification in any way as I would probably not be doing EICRs but it would be handy to have it in the bag , but if it did surely that would be equivalent to old 2391 which it is not, so I am thinking in an ideal world you should have both so I am going to plumb for the 2394 initially and do 2395 at later date , I think !!

Im thinking that this is the general consensus. I think its a bit of a gray area as too which course best to do first so I think like yourself I may jst plumb for the 2394 aswell. Its just a shame that it is so long between availability to take courses unless you do a combined 2394/2395 which at this stage of the year seems to require taking atleast three weeks off work.

Just because im annoyed I also want to complain tat it takes 45days to obtain the results. Complete scandal!!!!!

I am with you Rob , at least 2394 is now level 3 and covers 3 phase . The online exam covers both 2394 and 2395 so will not have to do that again if deciding to do 2395 and as part of the new QCF should be around for a while yet. I guess its down to what you are doing most of, new installs or EICRs, you pays your money and make your choice.

I have just started 2394 as the college teacher advised everyone on my course to sit this and then 2395. apparently so many people where failing 2391 because it was to much to learn over the course that they split in two???? the teacher told us 2394 is actually the harder of the two !! But its probably a money spinning load of bs !

Well done and congratulations, any exam taken and passed is a feather in your cap
I have to comment though on these new numbers and which exam covers what discipline

I, as an electrician who has only recently seen these changes,I would not have had a clue until brmans explanation of what covers what
It all seems so overcomplicted and its possibly for good monetary reasons (Training centres)

If I were to employ someone in these times,I would need a course on understanding courses

The 2391 was so easy, it had to go by the looks of it, all because it was understood and widely accepted

Nevertheless, again, well done and congratulations on passing

2391 had a low pass rate because it was a hard exam my company has just put me through the 2395 and it was a walk in the park compared to the 2391 they need to be making it harder
