Looking for a PAT tester to buy and just wondering if anyone can recommend one.

Not planning on doing it as my main type of work, but over the last few weeks i've had several small business approach me asking if I do it.

Had a quick look at the Seaward Primetest 100 so far, but would like some comments on others if poss.

I think that seaward are a great manufacturer for pat equipment. I myself went with the seaward Europa when I was in this position.

IMO Seaward are streets ahead in what they can do when it comes to PAT.

If you're not doing it full time you may not make your money back for a while though so something a bit less involved, may suit you (and your wallet) better.:)

Cheers guys.

You're right about making the money back, will take time.

The positive side is that its constant work testing extension leads each time refrigerated trailers come back off hire and also the hire companies tool etc.

What makes are at the lower end of the market then.

Again, depends on your spec....do you want to be able to produce computerised results or simple handwritten pass/fail certs (I have templates).

This then is weighed up against how much you can charge for said service and the 70p merchants you are up against.

Fluke do a tidy range as do megger & seaward, something for every wallet.

Fair point Lenny,

Won't be going down the computerised routes, not at the moment anyway. Luckily there doesn't seem to be many 70p merchants around here, not yet anyway:(

What would be taken as a cheap tester then (price range)

Have you seen the new Megger PAT Testing Business in a Box
Might help you to get your money back quicker

Click on this link - YouTube - MeggerUK's Channel

They also have a video that shows you exactly how to use the PAT tester, which on the basis I can never be bothered to read instruction books is a great help

If you are in the market for a Primetest 100 PAT Tester, I would say that that probably is one of the best and easiest to use PAT testers around for the cost. You can get them from around ÂŁ280 + VAT.
Similar PAT testers that have similar specifications and are also easy to use include: Kewtech KT72 and the Martindale HandyPAT 500.
Try this PAT tester comparison application which is quite good: Compare PAT Testers & Portable Appliance Testers shows all the different PAT testers and prices. Just fill in the features that you want :)

I was looking at getting one of these Kewtech PAT Adapter/Adaptor 1 are they worth the purchase for doing the ocassional job?

I picked on of these up and was surprised with how cost effective it is. Obviously the downer is having to write down all of your results separately. A lot of commercial PAT guys use the kit that will then print off sheet loads of results for the client, which sex's up the product.
The other negative is that using the adaptor will mean that your installation test kit is on the job as well, meaning it isn't working elsewhere.

But if you are a one man band, with a client that likes just stickers, or you like writing a lot, then the adaptor is ideal.

My biggest concern with the PAT adaptor is that you cannot conduct a proper earth bond test as it will only be at 200mA or 100mA depending on your meter.

i use a Kewteck TT71!!! its simple and compact ! only thing it done do is print results or labels..!! thats manual work !! lol.. i got mine for 200 quid!!

Personally it would annoy me having to use adaptors all the time. Can't you buy a proper UK one?
