pat testing at a gym

hi i am pat testing at a local gym but i am having a problem with insulation leakage coming up fail every time, this is the first time i have done this type of equipment i know i must be doing something wrong and not sure how to resolve this any help very greatful

What are you actually testing when you have a fail?

i am testing x force hydrolic chest machines and running machines,

Any chance of a bit more information, such as what results you were getting, what voltage you were testing at etc?

testing at correct voltage but getting insulation leakege of 2.25 which to my knowledge is too high?

The equipment might give off leakage by design.

Have you referred to the code of practice with regards to equipment? It allows 3.5mA per class I appliance that is not hand held or portable.

Do you get the same or similar results at 250v?
Obviously you should test at "the correct voltage", I'm just interested to know.
When you say "insulation leakage" do you mean insulation resistance or earth leakage?

just out of interest...is this a ladies only gym?....if so i can forsee an enjoyable session of `fault finding` ahead.....

Please be clear about what test you did, and use the correct terminology. Talking about 'insulation leakage' does not make sense. Also, what tester do you have? Is your machine telling you it is a fail, or are you interpreting the results as a fail?

Are you a qualified electrician carrying out Portable Appliance Testing, or someone who's done a PAT course without any background in electrics? Would be handy to know so we know what terminology to use.
