Hi guys just a quick question if your going to set up self employed as a pat tester and are qualified, is there a need to have to join NICEIC or any governing body? what i mean is isit compulsory as theyve just quoted 400 quid to join them, and i am seriously wondering wether that 400 is not better of being spent on something more for my entertainment?

thanks anyhelp would greatly be appreciated.

Yes £400 would be better spent on your entertainment.

If you'v got C & G 2377, Products & Public Liability together with Profesional Indemnity Insurances, then you'll be ready to go. Business build-up is more to do with the level of service you provide for your clients - and what they can see of you - than so called affiliation or acreditation memberships.

You can join the Guild Of PAT for £15 I believe mate:). As patman said, get your insurances and off you go. Spend some of the balance on beer, curry and women, the rest just waste:)
