I am a trainee looking to get PAT qualified.

I have looked at course like this one here Portable Appliance Testing Training, PAT and wondered what others thought. Is this a good idea for a trainee as I just want to get started and need to earn a wage which is something I have not been doing in recent times.

All help and advice from the experts here would be really appreciated by me.

Thanks for any help I get.

I did C&G2377-22 I am think it's the easiest exam and test
I was offered a job with some company but didn't have my paper work sorted (I had to chase my college and C&G)
I am also looking at a Pat job at just ÂŁ6.50/hr because I have the qualification but not time spent
Most jobs I've seen jobs that you don't need qualifications

In service inspection and testing of electrical equipment requires the inspector to be competent in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
The Instrotech course would go some way to demonstrate that competence. As a practical approach this course would suffice, however many organisations will not move away from city and guilds qualifications (2377) (which would cost more) so it would be dependent on the company you were hoping to be employed by.

The testing and inspection can be very soul destroying especially when undertaken for companies that charge very little for the inspections and tend to go through the inspection and testing too fast to be of any practical value.
However if you are looking to earn some money (probably not very much) then this could be a way forward for you.
However do go into it with your eyes open and try and do the best job you can.

I would recommend continuing your education so that you can progress beyond this work as your sole skill base.

I doubt whether you would have problems with the course, though standards have risen recently. If the course does not provide the code of practice then it would be a good idea to get it yourself for later reference. I believe the 4th edition is the current version.
