ive been asked by my company to do some PAT testing in the office which is mainly going to be computers, the micro wave and kettle.

not done pat testing for a while so can any one confirm if this is correct.

do my earth test on the equipment at 25a. need a value of less then 1ohm....or as its computer and sensitive equipment do i do it on 100ma? and where do i put my earth lead on the class 1 equipment? i no a lot of monitors dont have any metal?

do i need to do an insulation test on the computers or is 500v gonna blow the equipment? if i do need to do it where do i connect my live and neutral in the equipment?

cheers guys

Yes you should test IT equipment at 100mA. Monitors are often class 1 - there will be something metal somewhere even if you have to poke a probe through a vent or up a hole. Either way you can carry out the full range of tests on the lead.

ok thanks. yea i test the lead on full range and while its plugged in i do it on 100ma. but what about the insulation test? thats set to 500v and i cant change that? and where should i stick the probe for the insulation test?

On IT gear the best spot for putting your earth probe is one of the hexangonal posts that you secure D-type leads to. Don't go sticking your probes through the casings!
