PAT testing

Hi all new to this forum so sorry if this has been covered recently.

Could you help im half way through my electricians course and have been offered on top a two day PAT testing course (£200). Just had a few questions i was hoping for help with.

Would this be worth it?
Is there a lot of work about for this or do companies have there own people who do this?
How to get work doing this? is it a case of getting out there and selling PAT testing to clients?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated

Unless the PAT testing course is the City and Guilds 2377-100 and 200 In service test and inspection of electrical equipment, i would say it is waste of money.

I do know that there are courses for PAT Testing which are aimed at non electrical people, and this sounds like it may be one of them.
Do your homework before you part with any money.

If you are flush then there is no reason not to do it, if money is tight then personally no I would leave it till another time

The work that is about for PAT is so competitive that to win it you will be going in at a price of 50p an item or less.

If your hoping to be an electrical contractor PAT is something I felt you can offer to a client as another service rather than the only service.

thanks for your advise Malcolm. The course is C&G 2377 Portable appliance testing training and examination. It doesnt have a number after it though as you suggsted above

the 100 is a management course and the 200 is the actual testing course, most guys just do the 200 one.

If you are halfway through your electricians course, you should find the pat testing course informative and relatively easy.
I will say that the guidance book is quite big.
