pat testing

Hi what is the going rate for pat testing.

I was thinking of charging per appliance but never done it before so what is a fair price for this?.

thanks

i would say £2 per item with a minimum of £50, but your customer will want to pay 50p per item.

£2 is cheap if the test is done correctly, however all these "cheap deals" that are pushing the price down are utter tosh but the customer doesn't care provided all their appliances have a little pass sticker on them

hi

Agree £2 is cheap, my boss managed to get the clients we test for to agree to an hourly rate, if you carry out the test properly it can take up to 15 mins per appliance, thats providing you dont spend 30mins under a desk trying to find the plug in all the jumble of wires. We lost a contract to a one man band charging 20p per item he got caught out when he put a pass label on drill which was to be thrown out because the motor was burned out, they found he was just sticking labels on the appliances. So £2 i think is ok but you also have to cover your costs.

hi

I AGREE WITH THAT WHAT I FORGOT TO SAY WAS HE HAD NO ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE AT ALL, AND PROVIDED NO RECORD SHEETS, I WAS TOLD HE WAS SOLD THE PAT TESTER BY A COMPANY WHO TOLD HIM YOU DONT NEED TO BE AN ELECTRICIAN !!!!!!! PAT TESTING SEEMS TO FULL OF COWBOYS AND COMPANIES SELLING PAT TESTERS TO ANYONE.

PAT testing is boring! I charge £2.50 for the first 49 items, then £2.00 for the next 50

I once did 130 items in a very long day, and certainly wouldn't want to do that too often, plus I had to generate the report and invoice when I got home.

How anyone could do this day in, day out, beats me!

Anyone doing it for less than £1.50 is mad IMHO

Never done it so I can't comment but it sounds monotonous
but I have tried painting and decorating and there is nothing,I mean nothing, more brain numbingly boring than that
There is a Catatonia song with words,"Every day I wake up I thank the lord I'm Welsh"
For me its "Everyday I wake up I thank the lord I'm not a painter and decorator"
The thought fills me with nausea
