Ive been working in my company for about 7 years now and i am getting payed ÂŁ7 per hour. I would now class myself as an electrician. and people i know and family members are having arguments with me saying i should be getting paid alot more. what do you think my rate should be. I am fully quilified with 16th edition and i of 29 years old

In the US, depending on your exact location, a well-qualified electrician is generally making in the 20-30 dollar per hour range. Some less, some more, depending on if you fell into a particular niche of the trade. I'm not sure what that works out to in pounds.

ÂŁ7 per hour is incredibly low, how on earth do you live on that?
No offence to you my friend, but McDonalds pay the same rate to their burger flippers.

I have just returned to the game after a 20 year abscence and am working with one other guy (the boss) in order to prepare for getting myself up to speed with the current regs, and I'm on ÂŁ20 an hour (before taxes, etc).

I'd start hunting around for another job, because your boss is taking the pi$$.

(ment for reply too bigstew's post, i havent quite the hang of this yet)

suppose it depends on ur age anything over minimum is a bonus if your not yet qualifyed like me, im getting payed the legal minimum for 23yr old its a pointless amount. i'd like to ask for more but i imagine its the wrong time with people getting layed off and ive just today finnished my AM2 awaiting results. does anyone know what rate i should expect when i get the certificate through the door and if i would need the 17th edition in a hurry to claim it?

cheers
(times are hard when your just waiting for decent rates lol)
