A lot of people I hear are sticking two fingers up to it and walking out out until they're put on the cards. It's one massive scam and as far as I'm aware it's illegal also!

The tax rule that's applied to agency workers from today, they're not allowed to be classed as self employed any more which will cost them money.
They are going to be allowed to use umbrella companies which will mitigate the amount they'll lose.
Gideon and Call Me Dave are on the side of hard working families though, but they gave the likes of Richard Branson, Alan Sugar et al a tax cut of £40k a year last year. Must be tough being a multi millionaire.

I'm not 100% sure of that mate but you'll probably be allowed to continue as it means the government are getting your money up front the same as PAYE.
It's annoying that they say one thing and do something completely different though. It just proves that there's an us and them mentality within the corridors of power.

Another interesting thing is that they're not prepared to force employers into giving agency staff equal rights to directly employed people.
There's a lad where I am just now who has been a labourer for them for over 2 years, no sick pay rights, no notice rights etc etc. 2 bloody years and the implication is that there's not a permanent position needed for what he's doing?

Like everything I expect there's a way around this; some law was introduced where agency staff had to be paid the same as those on the cards. The last company I worked for started workers off on a lower rate for a couple of weeks so they only had to pay the agency staff that rate.

I don't really understand why they've introduced this rule - I thought the idea was supposed to be to encourage more people to work.

You can still be CIS if you sub direct to a firm

The job i am on they are trying to make people go umbrella company but i have set up a limited company and gone VAT registered which is much better. The vermin payment company offered to set up a limited company for free and run it for £180 a quarter!!!!!!!

On the NG Bailey job at Tottenham court road for the crossrail project the sparks have downed tools and are demanding to be taken on direct,UNITE have got involved

The only problem there is that Baileys have hundreds of agency sparks working for them at any one time. They'll most likely bladder the ones who've downed tools and replace them.

I work with many rope access men off shore and they all tell me it cost them about £250 a year for an accountant to do their books and tax return for working LTD Company.
They also make a little bit back on the tax.
