My NIC PIR forms state that the period to the next inspection assumes that the code 1's and code 2's are repaired without delay and that the code 3's are looked at as soon as practicable (ie as soon as). It also states that a certificate cant be a pass if there are code 1's or 2's (as we know).
The usual time periods between inspections is listed in guidance note 3 but is 10yrs domestic or change ot tenant and 5 yrs or change of tenant on commercial. I often do less than 10yrs on domestics due to old wiring and acessories. As it says it is down to the judgement of the person doing the inspection. If in doubt go for a shorter period.
I did a commercial a while ago (only a year old) but recommended the next PIR in 12 months time. So it varies.
