A PPM Schedule of sorts may help A 2 monthly vissual check along with any minor repairs and a PIR every 3/5 years depending on general condiition

Due to these types of letting units being generally unoccupied for several months of the year, and then being brought back into continous service for 'X' amount of months. ...At the very least these units should be tested at the start of each letting season. Nothing to stop maintenance staff having a quick look around, between letting as a matter of course, looking for any breakages, signs of burnt sockets outlets etc.

Up to the owners really, ...do they really want to be responsible at the end of the day, for injury, fire, death claims etc??

Same situation as the OP I have a lot of lets and caravans too, my method is 3 years and an annuall check, Zs at a few sockets, pendants,RCD test, 5 A outlets biggest prob I have is that the change over staff knock the stuffing out of sockets with the hoover, the other thing is to whip the cover of the CU and check for additions by the "maintenance staff" for instance showers changed torch charger in a single socket fed from the cooker MCB, it really is a case of keeping your eyes open and keep notes for next time, and most important let the person in charge have a copy of everything you do or advise and do it by written notification and e-mail that way there is no argument.
