Hi All,

I have a friend who is a landlord, and he in turn has plenty of landlord friends. I'm trying to get on side with him to get first option on various electrical works that need doing.

Anyway, my question is regarding periodics, and which competent person scheme to be a member of. I'm not a member of a scheme yet, but working up to it. -

I'm assuming landlords will need to provide their mortgage company or insurance company with proof that periodics are being carried out. Are these companies likely to insist on NICEIC registered electricians to carry out the work, or will they be sensible enough to accept periodics from Elecsa registered electricians ?

I want to join Elecsa, (being new to the game, it looks like they're going to better for me) but I don't want to join the wrong scheme if it ends up me losing business in the short term with these landlords.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Cheers
Steve

You say you are new to the game... this might impact on your choice anyway.

As far as I am aware, NICEIC want you to have been in business for 12 months before you apply. I don't believe ELECSA have the same stipulation.

ELESCA on the other hand want to come and visit your 'Office' whereas NICEIC don't.

I dont think insurance companies etc can choose how are they going to defend the action in court if you belong to a competent person scheme and are accredited by them to do PIRs how can they object so I would choose the CPS that suits you the best.

I wasn't aware of that ref the NICEIC. It seems the decision is made for me then - Elecsa it is !

We have found that it depends on the liscensing authority . Some are happy with a report from a qualified electrician but now many stipulate the NICEIC . Its worth checking out befoe hand

Don't join any club, get the C&G 2391 done, do your Pirs, and send copy of 2391 with the report, never once had any problems.
